Cam Newton

The New Orleans Saints should stay far away from Cam Newton.

The Patriots quarterback this past season and former MVP just didn’t show an ability to throw the ball. His options were limited, so there is some potential for improvement on an offense with Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara.

Overall though, Newton is a runner and that’s what he does best when he’s engaged in the offense. With Kamara a dominant receiver as a running back, having a quarterback like Newton may not be what’s best for the team’s superstar back.

Newton did not have a good season with the Pats, although, as noted, he was oftentimes their only competent offensive player. He ended the season with eight touchdowns and ten interceptions.

He did however have four multi-touchdown games on the ground as well. With Taysom Hill on the roster, Newton just doesn’t have the upside within the team’s offense. Hill can bring what Newton does if Sean Payton wants to go that route.

That said, there are quarterbacks out there that the Saints should target, but they’ll ideally hang on to Jameis Winston this offseason.
