Jimmy Garoppolo

The San Francisco 49ers were among the team’s interested in Detroit’s Matthew Stafford.

After Jimmy G played six games in 2020 and delivered an unimpressive 3-3 record with seven touchdowns and five interceptions, it wouldn’t be overly shocking to see him traded. NBC Sports questioned whether or not the veteran could be cut as well.

After posting a 13-3 record in 2019, Garaoppolo relapsed from that Super Bowl-making season. He did showcase the potential to lead a team. The Saints have his former teammate Emmanuel Sanders as well, but a reunion doesn’t seem likely unless he’s cut.

While Jimmy G’s contract wouldn’t allow the Saints to bring him in, New Orleans should certainly be in the market if he’s cut. He’s proven that he can lead a team with an elite defense. While he didn’t play well in 2020 or stay on the field for much of the season, he’s still a solid leader.

With San Fran potentially looking to move, the Saints may get lucky and see him cut. He’d at least be a competent option for New Orleans.
