Damien Wilson, OLB, Kansas City Chiefs

Damien Wilson is a great linebacker, but Kansas City is in a dilemma where Wilson’s contract is up and they have two or three very good linebackers who could take his position. Because of that, there is a good chance the Chiefs let Wilson walk in free agency against what they want.

The Saints then have the opportunity to swoop in and get a cap-friendly linebacker who could start at the position alongside Demario Davis. Last season, Wilson totaled 73 tackles and four of which were for a loss. He added one pass defended and one forced fumble.

Considering the Saints really only have one quality linebacker, there really isn’t anyone to compare Wilson to. However, it would allow them not to have to pay Kwon Alexander, who is coming off of an Achilles Tendon rupture, $13 million per year.

It would also help in solidifying up the middle of the field in order to better the defense. If the defense can make this move then they can help the offense get used to a new quarterback by consistently taking the ball away from or stopping the opponent.

Offer: 2-years, $5 million

Saints’ Savings: $10.5 million per year
