Benardrick McKinney, LB

This last fire sale option is probably the least likely again due to cap space, but it is a player that the Saints desperately need. The linebacking corps for the black and gold, outside of Demario Davis, hasn’t been impactful for a couple of years.

They did trade and bring in Kwon Alexander from the San Francisco 49ers midway through this season.

But, he ended up tearing his Achilles’ tendon so who knows if the Saints are going to want to bring him back this offseason on a contract similar to what he might want (assuming he’s released as that could make sense given his contract situation).

There is a couple of reasons the Texans might want to let the Saints take McKinney. One is that they already have his replacement in Tyrell Adams who was a machine this year. The other is that they could get draft capital and save money at the same time.

McKinney’s current contract is almost $8 million per year. That would save money if they were to let Alexander’s $13 million contract go and pick up McKinney’s cheaper one. McKinney might give more production than Alexander as well.
