The New Orleans Saints have cap problems, and while there’s no reason to believe that Mickey Loomis can’t navigate them, any trade that brings in Watson must also consider the cap penalties that may come with it.

That said, if the Saints are going to bring in Watson, they should try to dish out some contracts that don’t necessarily fit their needs.

The Saints have Deonte Harris getting more use in the offense, so they could deal Sanders to Houston. They could also deal Jenkins, who is an absolute ironman of a safety. If they re-sign Williams and draft a safety, they could be just fine there.

The picks are where this one gets interesting.

The Saints would have to deal out quite a bit more than just two firsts to make this trade work. Add in a few more Day 2 picks, and this deal may get done, but Sanders and Jenkins, both past their respective prime, don’t have the pull that a player like Thomas has.
