Marcus Williams (S)
Most fans would say that the top defensive free agent that the Saints have is Trey Hendrickson. After the season he had, it would make sense that Hendrickson would be the top priority for them to re-sign, but with the depth at that position, it’s not.
The Saints already have Marcus Davenport and Cameron Jordan should they not have enough money to re-sign Hendrickson after this year. However, the first and most important defensive re-signing that needs to happen is safety Marcus Williams.
Last year, the team let Vonn Bell walk after seemingly having to make the decision to re-sign him or Marcus Williams who is a free agent this year. That would mean then to keep at least some young, high-profile talent at the position, they need to keep Williams.
They could draft potential, but with Malcolm Jenkins and then Williams still on the roster, the Saints could focus those picks elsewhere. Last season, Williams had 59 tackles, seven passes defended, and three interceptions.
The three interceptions tied Janoris Jenkins and Malcolm Jenkins for the most on the team.
Marcus Williams should be the priority re-sign on the defensive side of the ball.
