Jamie Newman, University of Wake Forest/University of Georgia

Jamie Newman played quarterback for the University of Wake Forest from his freshman year in 2017 to his junior year in 2019. He then made a  transfer commitment to the University of Georgia where he opted out of this 2020 season — his senior season.

The most recent statistical analysis that we have of Newman was his 2019 season — his last one at Wake Forest. In that year, he threw for 2,868 yards and 26 touchdowns. He had a 61 percent completion percentage and a 145 passer rating.

Those are not bad statistics at all. On top of that, the fact that he made a commitment to go to a large football powerhouse means that he had something special. The New Orleans Saints are into players with special talents that might be overlooked.

The most recent might be Alvin Kamara.

On top of his passing, Newman is a very mobile quarterback. In that last season, he ran 180 times for 574 yards and six touchdowns. Payton has always said that he likes a quarterback that can escape the pocket and extend plays.

Newman would likely be on the board at the Saints’ second-round pick too.
