Sheldon Rankins

Sheldon Rankins is an oddball on this list. He is a very valuable defensive tackle, but the problem with Rankins is not his performance but what he might cost. Currently, his market value is $11.3 million per year which would be one of the top defensive tackles.

The Saints paid Rankins $3.2 million last year. That is an over $7 million jump that the Saints simply don’t have to spend on a defensive tackle especially amid the quarterback controversy that they are going to have to fork over money for.

Even though he had a good season, the Saints will be able to find another cheap tackle in free agency or they will be able to draft a tackle that can step in. They also had Malcom Brown and David Onyemata who could step up and fill that position.

The New Orleans Saints are going to have an interesting free agency period. They could possibly be looking for the future of the franchise at the quarterback position, but unfortunately, that means that they are going to have to let key players walk.
