Alex Anzalone

Coming into the season, the Saints’ hopes were high for Anzalone as a starting linebacker. He’d had injury troubles in previous seasons that had kept him off the field, playing just two games in 2019.

Anzalone came in as a starting linebacker for the Saints. He quickly was one of the weaker parts of a top-tier defense. That’s why the Saints went out and traded for Kwon Alexander, a player that, if healthy, could’ve changed the result of the team’s Divisional Round game.

On the season, Anzalone played in all 16 games and started 9 of them. He ended with 41 combined tackles and three tackles for a loss. On top of that, Anzalone didn’t record a single sack or quarterback hit.

A third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Anzalone may quickly be replaced by 2020 rookie Zach Baun. Form Wisconsin, Baun is the up-and-coming sidekick for Demario Davis, assuming Anzalone isn’t re-signed and Alexander released given his contract situation.

The Saints needed more from Anzalone, and they didn’t get it in 2020.
