Alex Anzalone

Alex Anzalone did not play a good game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He was ranked among the bottom five Saints in that game according to Pro Football Focus via Saints Wire. That said, it was never supposed to be Anzalone in that position. The Saints had brought in Kwon Alexander who has his season ended with an Achilles injury.

Anzalone played in 97 percent of the team’s snaps and did manage to secure seven combined tackles. The Saints’ third-round pick of the 2017 NFL Draft struggled to stop the run or cover well. Tackling also seemed to be an issue.

That said, with Demario Davis alongside him and Zach Baun looking to enter into the conversation, the Saints may be letting both Anzalone and Alexander loose this offseason as they’ll look to trim down their massive salary cap.

While the loss can’t be fully blamed on Anzalone, his lack of development over the last few seasons and potential for replacements to come in behind him may have made this his last game in the Big Easy.
