Heading into the do-or-die situation football, it is important that all the Saints are healthy. What is the injury situation like heading into Sunday?

The New Orleans Saints have been without record-setting wide receiver Michael Thomas for more than half the season this year. Drew Brees found his way onto the injured reserve list this year, and Alvin Kamara missed time as a result of an injury.

Heading into the Super Wild Card Weekend, the biggest questions looming over the black and gold is, “Who is going to be available?” and “Who will fill in for those who aren’t?” Let’s take a look at a couple of big-name Saints and then the rest as a whole.

Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara was injured for some time this season, but at this point in time, we are not worried about any injury he has sustained. Rather, we are worried about the COVID-19 protocols and the fact that he tested positive for the virus just last week.

Before the Week 17 finale, Kamara tested positive which meant that he and all of the running back corps were forced to sit out of the last game. The positive COVID-19 test also put Kamara’s status for the first playoff game in serious doubt.

However, Kamara ended up tweeting himself that barring any more positive tests or close contacts that he will be good to go and suit up as normal for the Saints’ playoff game.

Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas has been one of the biggest injury question marks for the entire length of the season. In fact, he has only made an appearance in seven out of 16 games this season — most of them sitting out because of an injury.

He even missed Week 17 on the injury report. Good news for Saints’ fans here too though, Thomas was seen as a participant of the team’s practice on Wednesday ahead of what could be a tough matchup on Sunday.

Others

Taysom Hill found his way onto the injury report with a concussion, but he was a full participant in Thursday’s practice. One big one to keep an eye on as we get closer to game time though is the status of breakout-star defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
