Saints: Drew Brees named starter for game against Chiefs
The New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton have decided to activate Drew Brees from the injured reserve and start him in the hardest game of the year.
Drew Brees went down with a huge injury for the New Orleans Saints in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, backup Taysom Hill has taken all the starting quarterback responsibilities and led the team to a 3-1 record.
Even though the defense has carried Hill to most of his wins, the backup quarterback has still shown his flashes of talent for the black and gold. He held the fort down with ease up until the last horrible loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
With the hardest game on the Saints’ schedule this year on the horizon this week, the rumors of Drew Brees coming back or Sean Payton starting Taysom Hill were in full effect. That was until now when Sean Payton has officially named Brees the starter for Sunday.
Just five weeks removed from 11 broken ribs and a punctured lung, the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback is going to come back with a vengeance. We don’t even need to discuss the significance of this game after the loss to the Eagles.
The last game that Brees played. He only threw for 76 yards and a touchdown. However, he has the talent to throw for over 300 yards and multiple touchdowns which is what he is going to have to do on Sunday against the Chiefs.
This should also bring back the rise of Alvin Kamara who flamed out since Hill took over. With Thomas nursing another injury, Brees is going to have to rely on Kamara heavily as he did in the first half of this season. Kamara was on pace to have record numbers.
Brees is sure to come back and impress. A win against the Chiefs would prove the Saints’ dominance again after that pathetic loss to the Eagles. It would also get them to clinch the NFC South with a win this week.
