P.J. Williams

This one only makes sense if Patrick Robinson makes his way off the injury report by game time on Sunday, which he didn’t. Currently, the player we want to see in place of P.J. Williams has been limited in practice. If that is still the case, then Williams will be the call.

In recent weeks Robinson has been outplaying Williams at the cornerback position in replacement of the injured Janoris Jenkins.

Even since Robinson can’t go, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson should be the move for the Saints, especially since they’ll be able to put in the slot more often than not with two other elite defensive backs on the roster.

On the year, Williams has more tackles than Robinson, but Robinson leads him in the secondary stats that the Saints want to see. While Williams has one pass deflected and zero interceptions on the year, Robinson has four passes deflected and two interceptions.

Robinson is also better in open-field coverage.

I realize that they can both bounce between safety and cornerback positions, but when it comes down to who deserves to be on the field more, the Saints could utilize Robinson, and in his absence, CGJ in the secondary more than Williams.
