Overview

The Saints are winning because of their defensive play, which may have worked when defense won championships.

However, with the way the rules are and the way the game is played, offenses reign supreme, and they don’t have a productive offense right now.

That is mainly due to Hill, who is severely limited as a quarterback, and cannot be trusted in a non-favorable situation. Thus, unless Payton can be flawless when it comes to leading an efficient early-down offense, they’re in trouble.

The defense is no longer beating themselves and has a lot of talent, but at some point, their turnover luck won’t sustain. With a difficult slate of opposing offenses on tap for them over the course of the final five weeks of the season, I can confidently say they won’t continue to allow seven points/game.

Will New Orleans make necessary adjustments and continue their winning ways? With the overall roster talent they have and a smart head coach, that should be the case. I am excited to see how they continue to adapt and get through whatever time Brees misses, and even how they’ll look when he returns.

For now, though, unless they make the move to Winston, they are playing with fire with Hill, and one has to wonder if that will come back to bite them.
