The Saints have relied on strong defensive play during their eight-game winning streak. However, this cannot be their identity moving forward.

They say that “defense wins championships”, and if you believe in that, then you are probably thrilled with how the Saints have played recently.

New Orleans has allowed a combined 30 points over their last four games and now rank 2nd in yards/play allowed.

One can make a case that this is the best-performing defense that head coach Sean Payton has ever had, and since it has helped them win eight straight games, one may believe that this trend continues.

Unfortunately, in the modern NFL, defense no longer wins championships. Thus, if the Saints continue to have their issues offensively and rely on their defense, they may be in for a rude awakening.

What has led the Saints to have this identity, why is it problematic, and what can they do to change it? Let us break this complex topic down completely!
