In the unfortunate event that Sean Payton either decides to leave the Saints or retire, they will need someone of just the caliber to take over for him.

Sean Payton is the embodiment of what it means to be a New Orleans Saint — there is no doubting that, ever. However, everyone’s time in a specific place, position, or career has to come to an end at some point in time.

Sean Payton has been the head coach of the New Orleans Saints since 2006. One of his first acts as the head coach was to bring in future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees from San Diego. He has 138 wins as a head coach.

He was the Super Bowl XLIV champion, and he also won AP Coach of the Year in 2006. He has led to team to an 8-7 playoff record, and he has one of the best winning percentages of any coach in the NFL with an all-time percentage of 63 percent.

I am not suggesting that it is time for Payton to retire or that I hope he leaves New Orleans, that is not at all the point of this article. However, the point is to analyze the prospects out there should the inevitable happen.

Here are the top three options if something happens.
