How Did Winston Play Against The 49ers?

With Brees sidelined with his rib injury, it was time for Jameis Winston to shine and lead to the Saints to a win and the second half, and he did that! Unfortunately, that certainly doesn’t mean he played well.

Winston averaged just 6.3 yards per attempt, took multiple sacks, and was anything but his typical self. His average depth of target of 5.1 yards was lower than Brees’, but that didn’t stop him from throwing multiple near interceptions.

So, we’re still getting Winston’s turnover-worthy plays WITHOUT the big plays? That certainly isn’t what the Saints are looking for.

In all honesty, though, I am going to give Winston a pass for his performance on Sunday.

He was coming into that game cold, and giving how much different he is than Brees, not having a game plan for him put him in a position to fail. I don’t think there is anything to legitimately analyze from his outing against San Francisco.
