Number Two: Earl Thomas

There is absolutely no doubt in anyone who follows the Saints that the team needs help at the free safety position.

Marcus Williams simply isn’t cutting it out there anymore and he’s been constantly getting burnt and his tackling has always been a weakness that seems to be getting worse rather than improving.

Adding Earl Thomas to the mix at free safety would give the Saints an established veteran who can certainly help the team win a Super Bowl.

Off the field issues aside, Earl Thomas is an absolute beast. Thomas, 31, has recorded 713 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 11 quarterback hits, two sacks, 12 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, 30 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns in his career.

He has been a captain of the defense multiple times in his career and is one of the most respected defenders in the NFL.

Adding Earl Thomas would give the Saints the leader the secondary needs while also providing high football IQ in what is arguably the most important position on the defensive side of the football.

It’s not like Thomas is washed up, as he was a Pro Bowler in 2019 who was released before the season due to some off the field issues. If the Saints can put those issues behind them, they could potentially get a great bargain on one of the best safeties in the NFL.
