Number One: Kiko Alonso

I don’t know how the New Orleans Saints managed to play this perfectly, but they managed to get Kiko Alonso off injured reserve and in practice and healthy enough to play or trade just two days before the 2020 NFL trade deadline.

The New Orleans Saints packaged a 2021 conditional fifth-round draft pick with linebacker Kiko Alonso to San Francisco in exchange for Kwon Alexander. Kiko Alonso is a solid linebacker, yes, but he’s also a 30-year-old coming off his third career ACL tear with just one season left on his contract.

The Saints were likely going to release Alonso if it weren’t for his eligibility of being on the PUP list,   so the fact that we were able to trade for a reliable veteran for next to nothing is outstanding.

The Saints needed long-term depth at the linebacker position, and they now have that with Demario Davis and Kwon Alexander locked up past this season.
