The Saints were one of the few teams to make a deal prior to the trade deadline, and there are a few notable aspects that may have gone under the radar.

There’s no doubt about it; when the New Orleans Saints announced that they traded for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander, Saints fans across the world erupted with joy. Some may have thought they lost the deal as well.

The Saints are usually quiet when it comes to blockbuster moves at the trade deadline, but they also realize they have a small Super Bowl window and do not want to waste what could be Drew Brees’ final season.

Brees has looked good for much of the season, especially considering that his arm strength clearly isn’t there. His receivers have been injured, but the main issue, which they addressed, was the defense.

The Saints needed obvious help on the defensive side of the ball, and they got that with the addition of Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander.
