Drew Brees needs his receivers back

Alvin Kamara was dynamic, but the Saints receiving corps wasn’t up to pair.

With Brees now in his 40s, the Saints need more from their receivers. He had 31 completions yet ended the game with just 280 yards. The Saints had five receivers go for a reception yet not a single one ended the game with over 45 yards.

Tre’Quan Smith was the most-used receiver, finishing the game with seven targets and five receptions. He had 43 yards. Tommylee Lewis and Juwan Johnson both had one reception for five yards while Austin Carr and Deonte Harris also got in on the action.

With Marquez Callaway, Emmanuel Sanders, and Michael Thomas out, the Saints will be praying for a few better players that’ll be able to create separation against a sturdy Bucs defense next week.

Big-time players make big-time plays, and that’s something the Saints were void of from their receiving corps in Week 8.
