Alex Anzalone

I will admit that Alex Anzalone is probably better than anyone the Saints could go find on the free-agent market — for now. That means for the Saints to upgrade this expendable player, that they would have to trade for someone.

During Weeks 1-6, only two Saints linebackers are among the top in tackles. Demario Davis is the first on pace to have another 100-tackle season, but he is the only one. Anzalone has 22 solo tackles, and the next closest linebacker is Zack Baun with four.

Besides the stat sheet, out of the snap count, Demario Davis led linebackers with 100 percent of defensive snaps. Outside of him, Anzalone has only played in 84 percent. They need another linebacker in this position that can allow them to run more packages.

Alex Anzalone will draw a pretty good price tag. That way the Saints can get the most out of this deal. With Zack Baun up and coming from this year’s draft, they could even trade for picks and force Baun into the lineup.
