Number Three: Recent Draft and Free Agent Busts

The 2017 NFL Draft for the New Orleans Saints was an absolute hit for the team, but since then the team has struggled to find productive players who can help contribute to the team.

It’s not going to be easy to equal a draft like 2017’s, but the fact that they have struggled to find any other dependable players since then shows wonders.

The Saints traded up in the 2018 NFL Draft to select Marcus Davenport over very good players like Derwin James, Leighton Vander-Esch, and 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.

Davenport shows some decent promise, but he’s been an overall bust considering the talent the Saints could have had. There’s only one other player on the Saints who came out of the 2018 NFL Draft and it’s the overall unproductive wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith.

Sean Payton isn’t necessarily on a short leash in my opinion, but if he continues to spiral the way he is, the end of the road could be closer than the team’s next Super Bowl appearance.
