Demario Davis – Defensive Player of the Year

Demario Davis has been a flat out monster this year. Last year, he was selected to the first-team All-Pro list and not the Pro-Bowl. This year, he is competing with defensive end Trey Hendrickson for this Saints’ award.

Hendrickson right now has been dominating the line of scrimmage. He has 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss — both of those lead all Saints in those categories. However, Davis is not far back from where Hendrickson is at.

Davis has 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss. However, Davis also adds a team-leading 36 tackles and one pass defense to that list. With him being the top in those categories and being so close to Hendrickson in the line categories, I gave this award to Davis.

Now, it is still early, but I don’t see Davis giving up this award. He has been and will continue to be the leader on the defense for the Saints. At least for the near future, Davis should handily win this award at the end of the season for the Saints.
