Number Three: Clay Matthews

Clay Matthews is somehow still an available free agent, but hopefully, the New Orleans Saints give him a call, so he won’t be for long. Matthews, 34, is an older linebacker, but he still has plenty of juice to bring to a defense like the Saints’.

The Saints linebacker corps has been very quiet this season outside of superstar Demario Davis and Clay Matthews can create some buzz for the unit. Matthews can rush the passer, tackle well, and is a very smart veteran who has played in a lot of big games and has won a Super Bowl.

Matthews is a six-time Pro Bowler who still has more to offer if he’s put in the right system. With all that’s gone wrong defensively for the Saints this year, they should give him a chance.

In his 11 year NFL career, Clay Matthews has recorded 519 tackles, 130 tackles for a loss, 200 quarterback hits, 91.5 sacks, 17 forced fumbles, five fumbles recovered, 44 passes defended, six interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns.

Matthews would be a great addition to the Saints who are in need of some solid pass-rushing linebackers.
