Number One: Drew Brees vs Justin Herbert

Games like the one we will see on Monday night are always some of the season’s best. It’s the games where the young rookie with a lot of promise squares off against the proven veteran without much left in the tank.

Justin Herbert was the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and has already played in three games with the Los Angeles Chargers. Herbert replaced Tyrod Taylor who was accidentally given a punctured lung by a Chargers medical staff employee.

Herbert has shined in those three games despite being winless as he completed 72 percent of his passes for 931 passing yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 5:3.

Drew Brees comes in the game with a 2-2 record on the season but has struggled a bit at times. Brees comes into the primetime game with a 71.3 completion percentage, 1,006 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Brees is coming off a game where he completed 76 percent of his passes for 246 yards and two passing touchdowns in a big win over Detroit.

This matchup between the young signal-caller and the wily veteran could be one for the ages especially if it ends up being a good one. Brees obviously has the upper hand in this matchup, but I’m intrigued to see what Herbert brings to the table.
