Tre’Quan Smith

The third-string wide receiver entering the season, Tre’Quan Smith has been thrust back into that WR 2 role as Michael Thomas has missed time due to a high-ankle sprain.

Thomas may return in Week 4, and even if he does, Smith needs to step up and do more. It’s his third season in the league, and outside of a few terrific performances, he’s either been MIA or injured.

Smith had 86 yards in the team’s Week 2 matchup with Las Vegas then saw that snapped in half to 42. If Smith can hover around the 60-80 yards per game, the Saints will have a much more dynamic offense.

With a new contract starting to be a discussion point for the young receiver, the Saints will need more from him if they view him as a long-term piece of hteir future. At 6-foot-2, Smith presents a big target for Brees which should, in theory, make him a top-tier target for Brees.

Smith was the team’s 2018 third-round pick and has been in the shadow of Thomas and Ted Ginn Jr. since arriving. Now, with Thomas out or at least limited in Week 4, he’ll have another chance to shine.
