Chauncey Gardner-Johnson

Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins played 100% of snaps in both Weeks 1 and 2. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson only played in 87% of snaps in the first week and 69% in the second week. The main reason for his increased snap count is the lack of linebacker production.

The Saints have only played two linebackers this season, which means that they are playing an increased three safety packages putting Gardner-Johnson in the slot where he thrives. Last season, he didn’t see near this much time.

Hopefully, this will lead to him become more of the Saints starting safety. He is a better player than Malcolm Jenkins and that was evident in the game against the Raiders on Monday night with their performances.

But, can he not be penalized is the question. CGJ hasn’t been great not sending the yellow flag in the air, a reason he may not be getting the number of snaps he may deserve.

Gardner-Johnson should be the safety playing in 100% of snaps. However, until that day comes, CGJ should be at least 80% or above every single game. They won when he was and they lost when he wasn’t. He needs to go back up above 80% in Week 3.
