Week 1 looked easy for the New Orleans Saints demolishing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; however, there is always room to improve.

The Saints linebackers may be the troublesome group for the team this year. Last year, the secondary was weak while most other units were strong; now the linebackers are weaker aside from Demario Davis manning the middle.

They are going to have to fix things though in hopes to be a Super Bowl-caliber team. If they could add one more quality linebacker, then the whole core of the Saints defense would undoubtedly be one of, if not the, best in the NFL.

I will admit that Alex Anzalone and Kaden Elliss are probably better than anyone the Saints could go find on the free-agent market — for now. That means for the Saints to upgrade one of those two positions, that they would have to trade for someone.

During Week 1, only two Saints linebackers made the stat sheet. Demario Davis had a good game, but he was the only one. Anzalone had one solo tackle, and Elliss didn’t make the stat sheet at all in his first game.

Besides the stat sheet, out of the snap count, Demario Davis led linebackers with 100% of defensive snaps. Outside of him, Elliss only played in 4%, and Baun did see the field at all. Here are the top three linebackers the Saints should target in the coming weeks.

Let’s also note the team could toss a few Day 2 picks as they could have compensatory picks coming their way in 2021.
