Quarter Four

The third quarter of the Saints schedule will likely define their season; the last four games will be an attest to that definition. They will face three playoff teams in this stretch. We’ll learn what we need to know about this team, and when they make the playoffs, they will have earned that right.

They begin a third road game in three weeks traveling to Philadelphia.

Philly in December could be dicey for weather. Philadelphia eked into the playoffs last season when Dallas did what Dallas does: lose when they need to win. One worries about the law of averages coming back to get them.

The Saints are 7-2 against the Eagles since Sean Payton came to town, including three playoff wins. But the Saints have simply been a better team, and they remain a better team. Road win.

Finally, the Saints return to New Orleans. Refreshing, right? Wrong. You come home to play the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

More from Who Dat Dish

This should be an NFL featured match up and potentially a precursor to the big game this year. Like the Niners game, this is a tossup. This game matches the best of the best and it could come down to one turnover or one stop.

The Vikings have gotten the best of us in the worst of ways over the last few seasons.

First, in 2017, it was the tough playoff loss. In 2018, we went to Minnesota and won during the regular season, but last season again we had a tough playoff loss to Minnesota. There are just some teams that are a tough matchup for you, and the Vikings are that for the Saints.

So it will likely be another dogfight when they come to the Superdome on Christmas afternoon. This is one of those matchups that scares you, particularly at this point in the season.

The Vikings could be trying to make a playoff push again, while the Saints could be playing the seeding game. I feel like the Saints will remember the negativity of the playoff loss and channel that angst into a win.

As usual, the Saints close the season with a divisional game, this one going to Carolina three days into the new year.

As mentioned earlier Carolina is going through a lot of changes and while I think they will be better at the end of the season than our earlier meeting, I think knowing offensive coordinator Joe Brady and QB Teddy Bridgewater, we’ll contain their offense well enough.

Fourth quarter: 3-1

Again, two losses in this section of the year would not be a shock, particularly if the Saints have nothing to play for late. If they can’t get the one seed, then they could be resting starters in Carolina.

But going undefeated in this segment wouldn’t shock me either if they are on a roll. It will be a tough game facing Kansas City, but people did beat them last season, and we can too. This team is as good as any in the league.
