With the New Orleans Saints releasing their first unofficial depth chart, let’s breakdown a few of the surprises that fans may have overlooked.

The New Orleans Saints trimmed their roster to just 53 players on Saturday, signed most of their practice squad on Sunday, and have now released their first unofficial depth chart. It’s been a chaotic last few days in the Big Easy.

The Saints will now start preparing for their first match up with the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The return of football, something that seemed like a bleak hope back in June, is now just several days away.

We know the pecking order in which the team laid out. That can be seen here.

But, what about that pecking order piques our interest. Where rookies landed and where free-agent signings were placed are two things we looked at, among other notable placements for veterans and young, up-and-coming players alike.

With the bulk of the NFL teams playing in just three days and the first game of the season today, it’s officially time to get excited for the return of Saints football.
