The Saints released Patrick Omameh as part of the 53-man roster cuts. The Jets might have also released Omameh’s replacement the Saints should sign.

In the most surprising cut that the New Orleans Saints made as part of narrowing down their 53-man roster, they released one of their best backup offensive lineman, Patrick Omameh. That leaves only four replacement lineman to the roster.

New Orleans has an injury-prone line, to say the least. Last year, Terron Armstead, Andrus Peat, among others missed games which means the backup lineman is the second-most important second string to the linebackers.

On the other hand, the New York Jets also released a lineman in the cuts last week. They released a five-year veteran, Jonotthan Harrison. Harrison has been with the Jets for two years now and has started 18 games in those two seasons.

Patrick Omameh has only been with New Orleans for one year and started one game. He has been a career backup playing for Tampa Bay, Chicago, Jacksonville, and the New York Giants before New Orleans.

Harrison is arguably better than Omameh. New Orleans kept several people on the roster that they do not need. They need to make a move on Harrison soon. We just saw the Miami Dolphins release Josh Rosen as well.

Before anyone could even blink, he was already signed to another team. For that reason, New Orleans needs to make quick work of signing Harrison and releasing another player. Currently, their only known backups are Nick Easton and Will Clapp.

This signing would put Harrison directly behind Erik McCoy at the center and open up Easton and Clapp to backup Ramczyk, Armstead, Ruiz, and Peat. They will need it, especially with Peat already going down once in training camp.
