The New Orleans Saints thought all was well in their Alvin Kamara contract negotiations, until it wasn’t.

Seemingly out of the blue, the Saints’ three-time Pro Bowl running back Alvin Kamara opted to hold out in search of a new contract rather than risk being injured under his rookie deal. Kamara has been out of practice the last three days, of all which have been deemed unexcused.

Kamara is set to earn just 2.133 million dollars in the final year of his four year deal he was given when he entered the league, a number he is sure to outplay.

Kamara has been the definition of a dual-threat running back for the Saints and should be snagging a new deal anywhere between Christian McCaffrey ($16 million per year) and Derrick Henry ($12.5 million per year).

Whether Kamara will actually get that amount is unknown. With the NFL’s pay structure, guaranteed money also has quite the attraction, especially in the RB market so how much of that he’s offered may be a huge factor as well.

If he were to continue to hold out, here are three running backs who could take over as the top running back in the Big Easy.
