OL, Cesar Ruiz

Cesar Ruiz was one of the biggest surprises of the NFL Draft.

Most Saints’ fans fully expected Sean Payton and company to choose Patrick Queen or another wide receiver. They went out of the box and chose an offensive lineman — which they didn’t need at the time, but they had a plan.

Assuming after that that Ruiz would be a good backup, the Saints released guard Larry Warford. Now, Ruiz was not only a surprise pick, but he is going to be the full-time starter at the right guard or center) position for the entire season.

That is one major reason that Ruiz has a potential superstar written all over him. However, the second reason is probably just as important and that is the people that Ruiz is going to have to learn from.

Ruiz is set up for success on the Saints having one of the best offensive lines in the league.

The Saints have Terron Armstead, Andrus Peat, Ryan Ramczyk, and Erik McCoy. Ruiz is going to have to opportunity to learn how to play his position from those guys. They are also a good reason for the success of Ryan Ramczyk.

Also, did I mention that Ruiz plays center and guard? That is always a plus.
