Defensive Improvement

On paper, the Saints’ defense improved. One key improvement is that they brought back a more experienced starting lineup. They retained most of their lineup from last year so everyone has one more year of experience under their belt.

On top of bringing back most of their defense, they also improved on the positions they did not retain. They let Vonn Bell walk, but they replaced him with former Super Bowl-winning Saint, Malcolm Jenkins at the safety position.

They also restructured the contract of Janoris Jenkins. If you remember last year, the brought in Jenkins after he was released by the Giants and Eli Apple went down with a season-ending injury. They obviously liked what they saw, and he is a vast improvement over Apple.

The Saints had a top-five offense last year, but the defense struggled a little. This year, the defense should be able to come close to matching the progress of the offense. This should be a huge year for the defense.
