Emmanuel Butler

Having been terrific for his second straight Saints training camp, it’s time to finally give Emmanuel Butler a chance at real snaps. Butler was among the several surprising cuts from last year’s 53-man roster trimming.

This season, although the Saints did upgrade the receiver corps with Emmanuel Sanders, Butler will have another real chance at a roster spot. However, it won’t be easy for Sean Payton to limit the receiving corps to just six, four of which are seemingly guaranteed.

The 6-foot-4 receiver from Northern Arizona University may still miss out on a shot with the Saints. Saints Wire’s John Sigler still has Butler missing the 53-man roster. He’s an explosive, mismatch nightmare, but he plays the team’s most competitive position.

If he misses out on this roster, I wouldn’t expect Butler to settle for any other practice squad. He’s shown what it takes to get an NFL contract. Hopefully, it’s with the Saints, but it’s certainly going to be a tough call.
