Drew Brees got the weapons he desperately needs

Last season, Michael Thomas was the only receiver in the top three targets for Drew Brees. Besides Thomas, tight end Jared Cook and running back Alvin Kamara round out the top three targeted players for Drew Brees.

It is hard to gain the traction that you need with only one receiver producing enough output to make defenses worry. The defenses were able to shift the cornerbacks and secondary around to where Thomas was on the field.

Now, the team smartly went out and added more receiver talent that Brees desperately needed. They signed ex-49er Emmanuel Sanders to a two-year contract. He will not only give the defense something to worry about, but he will also give Brees’ another talented target.

Brees has been deadly in the past when he has had two talented receivers. The closest example would be Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks. Now with Sanders and Thomas, Brees should have no problem opening up passing lanes.

He might even through for over 4,000 or 5,000 yards — something we haven’t seen him do in a couple of years.
