Jabaal Sheard

A former second-round pick out of Pittsburgh, Sheard spent the 2019 season with the Colts.

After four years in Cleveland to start his career, Sheard played in New England, helping bring the city a Super Bowl. He then left for Indianapolis, where he played three seasons, recording under six sacks in each of three. Sheard would primarily be a solid option for depth.

Starting 12 games last season and recording 4.5 sacks and 5 tackles for loss, Sheard has the potential to make an impact, but with Davenport and Jordan up front, he’d be more of an insurance policy unlike Clowney who could likely start over Davenport.

31, Sheard, according to FanDuel, is the second-best edge rusher still available. They put Everson Griffen, who signed with the Cowboys, first. From a Seahawks perspective, Clowney wasn’t included.

He’s not going to be an elite game-changing rusher for the Saints, but he could be the insurance policy that finally allows this team to get over the hump when someone on their front undoubtedly gets injured.

That said, all five of these players would make welcome additions for the Saints and could benefit from a workout with one of the NFC’s best teams.
