Coaching/Training

The last reason that Everson Griffen might have made the biggest mistake of his career is the vast difference in coaching. The Saints boast one of the best NFL coaches in the history of the NFL and a talented defensive coordinator.

Neither the Saints nor the Cowboys have a defensive coordinator that has boasted a top-10 defense, but the coaching comes down to the head coaches. The Cowboys, rightfully so, fired Jason Garrett and signed Mike McCarthy is a great move.

However, they still don’t compare to the coaching genius that is Sean Payton. Griffen would have had an excellent coach in New Orleans, but he would have also had a veteran defensive end that he could have learned something from in Cameron Jordan.

Similar to what Jameis Winston did. He wasn’t getting a market value contract so he signed a one-year deal to learn behind Sean Payton and Drew Brees for the season.

Everson Griffen made the decision that he thought was right for him. Unfortunately, and there may be some bias, the best thing he could have done for his present and future would have been to sign with the New Orleans Saints. I guess there is always next year.
