Money

The first reason that Everson Griffen made a mistake is that he left more money on the table. We do not know how the negotiations went between the ex-Vikings and the Saints’ front office, but we do know the Saints’ money situation.

Griffen ended up signing a 1-year, $6 million deal with the Cowboys. The Saints had that much money to offer Griffen, whether they did or not that is beyond the scope of our knowledge, and we are not going to speculate either way.

The Saints have always been a team to play the cap space all the way up to the top. They are still near the top, but they had enough money if they wanted to offer Griffen more than what the Cowboys offered him for the season.

I would assume though that IF the Saints offered him that money or lower that he purposely chose the Cowboys over the Saints and that is never a wise decision, but don’t be fooled, money was a part of the reason Griffen made this mistake.
