Alex Anzalone

Alex Anzalone missed most of 2019. It ended up costing the Saints as numerous injuries racked up late in the season causing the team to add depth. Anzalone is back at 100% and should be a starter.

The team drafted a dominant rookie rusher by the name of Zack Baun in the third round. Baun had double-digit sacks as an outside linebacker at Wisconsin and will pose a threat for Anzalone.

Drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Anzalone, 25, played two games in 2019. In 2018, Anzalone made an appearance in all 16, starting seven.

He ended with 59 combined tackles with two sacks. He’s not truly broken out as the Saints had hoped, but he has shown an ability to hit hard and be a solid special teams tool. In 2018, Anzalone allowed 25 completions on 32 targets.

He must be better, and if that injury flares up at all or even causes him to slow down, Baun may quickly be added into the mix. For now, it seems like it’s Anzalone’s spot to lose, but he may just lose it in the near future.
