CB, Marshon Lattimore

The last possibility for Defensive Player of the Year candidates from the Saints would be cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Stephon Gillmore, last year’s DPOY, was the only cornerback to be a candidate out of last year’s finalists.

The cornerback isn’t in a superiorly praised position. For a cornerback to get to be the defensive player of the year it takes tremendous work — probably more than most positions — to get the recognition that they deserve.

For Lattimore to be in the running for this position. He is going to need to intercept near double-digit passes this year. That is a major task for the cornerback. Last season though, Gillmore intercepted six passes and batted down 20 of them.

Lattimore will need to get near those numbers to have his shot, but it is possible.

The Saints have a good chance to have a number of individual players as finalists for a bunch of awards. They are also set up in the position to have the team as Super Bowl contenders. It is all about how the season plays out.
