The New Orleans Saints have one of the league’s best defenses. It only makes sense that one of these three might win Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, the NFL had some pretty strong Defensive Player of the Year candidates — and none of them were New Orleans Saints players. However, with the new and improved defense, one of these three could find themselves on the shortlist.

Stephen Gillmore, a cornerback from the New England Patriots, won the award last year. He allowed only 51 completions on 92 targets and only one touchdown on his coverage last season through the first 16 weeks of the season.

Other candidates included Chandler Jones, one of the NFL’s most prolific pass rushers, T.J. Watt, Aaron Donald, and Nick Bosa. Between the Watt and Bosa brothers, the Saints stars have their work cut out for them to win this award.

The Saints, though, definitely are in a position to have one, if not two, of these players on the candidate list, when it rolls around at the end of next season. They will need to be a Super Bowl contending team though for this to work.

Although, it pretty much works hand-in-hand. If any of these three are only the candidate list, there is a good chance that the Saints are in a position to make a deep run into the Playoffs. Here are the three Saints that could win the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year.
