Derek Carr

A three-time Pro Bowler, Derek Carr may be a solid addition, but the Saints would likely have to give up far too much to get him on his current contract. Carr signed a five-year deal worth $125 million in 2017 and it is set to expire after the 2022 season.

Having captained the Raiders to a 12-3 record in 2016, Carr solidified himself as one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Sadly, his play has continued to decline as has his weapons on the edge.

With no Amari Cooper, the team struggled. They did give Carr some help on the ground with Josh Jacobs.

They went from four wins to seven. There is still a lot of improvement to make for the Saints’ Week 2 opponents. Restarting with a new quarterback could be an opinion. They would have only have about $10 million in dead cap if they cut Carr.

That’s still unlikely but far more realistic than New Orleans trading for him which would require many pieces being let go to maximize that space. Either way, Carr’s ability and past would make him a top option if Brees for some reason misses the entire season.
