Terron Armstead

The Saints left tackle, Terron Armstead has special talent, and he’s been a crucial part of Sean Payton’s offense since being drafted in the third round in 2013. Armstead made his second straight Pro Bowl last season, and he’s one of the best left tackles in the league.

Armstead has great talent, he’s a great locker room guy, but there’s a serious downside to his team value.

Armstead has barely been able to stay on the field in his whole career. Payton knows how valuable left tackles are, so he’s been plugging along with Armstead’s role because Brees needs to be protected late.

With that being said, the head coach may want a new left tackle with a new quarterback if Brees does retire soon. A left tackle who’s missed 22 games in the last four seasons isn’t exactly the franchise mold that coaches like out of the left tackle position.

To give some credit and positive hope, Armstead did only miss one game last year, but it could spell trouble for his future with the team if he misses a lot of time in 2020.

Sean Payton just cut his Pro Bowl right guard this off-season after drafting a lineman in the first round in 2020. If Armstead leaves this offseason, the Saints would know to fill that hole with another first-round draft pick at left tackle, in their young, improving offense.
