Alvin Kamara

The next Saint player who could opt-out is Alvin Kamara. This situation is similar to Sheldon Rankins. However, we have talked before about Kamara holding out in the hope of signing a bigger contract before getting hurt this year.

While nothing definite has been heard about that situation, opting out of his contract would allow for Kamara to take the season off and spend it working on restructuring his contract with the team or finding a way out of New Orleans.

The only two downsides are if Kamara opts out 1) he cannot opt back in at any point this season even if him and the Saints come to an agreement, and 2) he would not get an accrued season unless it was for a medical reason.

Therefore, if the two sides didn’t come to an agreement and the Saints didn’t trade him, next year we would be back in the exact same spot that we are now. However, I think, given a year’s length, that the two could be able to come to an agreement if Kamara opted out.
