The Saints must finish within the top four in the NFC

As the season whined down last year, the big debate was what seed would most benefit the Saints going into the playoffs. We hoped they would finish in the top two in order to get a first-round bye not having to play.

Obviously that didn’t happen, and we see the outcome. This year, on the other hand, with the change in playoff formatting, the Saints must get within the top four in the NFC. There have been several changes to the playoffs for next season.

We would push for them to get a bye week again like we did last year, but the NFL added the seventh team to each conference’s side of the bracket. That means that only the top seed in the conference gets a first-round bye.

The Saints should push to be the best team in the NFC and get that bye. They could easily do it, but right now, we just want them to strive to get inside of the top four. If they are inside of the top four, they will at least host the first-round game at home.
