Number Three: Blake Bortles

If for some reason the Saints don’t want to turn to someone already in the building, they could turn to the free-agent pool and sign former first-round pick Blake Bortles to fill the void if Brees goes down.

The likelihood of the Saints actually deciding to sign Blake Bortles is slim to none, but I figured I’d just toss the idea out there.

Bortles has had flashes of greatness in his NFL career and with the guidance of Sean Payton and Drew Brees, he could be a great quarterback at the NFL level once again.

In his six-year NFL career, primarily with Jacksonville, Bortles has recorded a 59.3 completion percentage, 17,649 passing yards, 103 passing touchdowns, 75 interceptions, a quarterback rating of 80.6, and eight game-winning drives.

Bortles has also seen some success on the ground as well as logging 283 rush attempts, 1,766 rushing yards, 121 first downs, and eight rushing touchdowns. If worst comes to worst, the Saints could always turn to the solid 6-foot-5 signal-caller to keep the team afloat.
