They just signed a future superstar to back him up

The New Orleans Saints lost Teddy Bridgewater this season after Brees re-signed with the organization. Rumors have swirled around who the next heir to the throne was — Taysom Hill or someone else.

When Bridgewater left, the backup quarterback spot was up for grabs. Until they used free agency to sign the future of their franchise — Jameis Winston. The one-year contract Winston signed needs to be the transition into a bigger contract as a franchise quarterback.

Who else has a backup quarterback that threw for 5,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in the season previously? While he might have also thrown for 30 interceptions, the coaching staff for the Saints will correct that issue quickly.

Winston wasn’t given the possibility to win in Tampa Bay. In New Orleans, Winston might be the player to win the franchise another Lombardi trophy. He needs to replace Brees at the end of this season.
