Clowney is the perfect one-year deal

Clowney has noted that he’s down for a one- or two-year contract.

For New Orleans, that should be music to the ears. With players that need extended or potentially new deals in 2021, the Saints don’t want to be hanging onto Clowney much longer than they have to given the talent that’ll need to be retained.

It’s really a perfect deal for both sides. If Clowney signs for one season in the Big Easy, he’ll get to revitalize his career and look for a larger contract whether with the Saints or elsewhere next offseason.

The 27-year-old, after a down season, likely won’t be seeking too large of a contract. If it’s around $8 million, the Saints would be able to transfer their Warford savings right over. However, if he’s seeking eight figures, it might not be the best fit.

The Saints don’t need Clowney, but for all these reasons, he’d be a great addition to this team’s defense.
